Mannn I wanted to love this, really I did hearing samples left and right “Dreamin”, “Escape 2 Mars”, “Light Years”. 4th Demension Rocketships was like a perfect painting. So when Mars came out I hopped on that shit fast. So far so good the intro is dope so im excited at this point, then then… El Gifto Magnifico too me sounded like a Mos def reject but thats ok the album picked up from that point BAM! Electric Waterfalls. I dont know maybe its just me but I hate having to skip songs, its the worst why not want it all too flow together like a story? Now listen the album wasnt “terrible” its just not up to my expectations Gab, but hey I still bought it and its playing strong on the ipod. For you guys buying it on Itunes (like 90% of the world now) I recommend not buying the entire thing unless your a GoG/Blackalicious fan just listen too me and get these tracks for sure, (E2MTRO,Light Years, Dreamin’,and Escape 2 Mars) and if your new to Gift of Gab  just ignore this entire post and go straight to 4th Demension Rocketships and get edumicated.

Cunninlynguists- Strange Journey Vol.2 [APOS] (2009)// Mark: B++

The Cunninlynguists is another one of my favorite groups lyrically and musically. And in Strange Journey they dont dissapoint, sure Dirty Aces wasnt my favorite album and truthfully I didnt really like it, so when I heard they where dropping Strange Journey 2 I was a bit skeptical. But they really made me eat my words with this one and I appreciate the time they put into this album as a whole. An album where each track flows together is better too me, I dont need to know when each song starts and finishes. SouthernUnderground was my all time FAVORITE by CunninLynguists and maybe my favorite album of all time and this one reminds me alot of it. Strange Journey: Volume 2 features guest appearances from platinum artist E-40 and Evidence of Dilated Peoples Represented by The Agency Group, CunninLynguists embark on a month long national tour on Nov 10 to support Strange Journey: Volume 2.

Hot Water Music- No Division [No Idea Records] (1999)// Mark: B+

No Division is considered by many to be the band’s best work and has been out of print for several years. The fourth full-length from this post-rock/hardcore/punk rock quartet is really just more of the same, but the same really isn’t so bad. Those who love the band will certainly find it appealing, but those who were drawn in by earlier efforts will probably notice that the styles start to get a bit tired and that this record is at times a rehash of previous outings.HWM exist in a unique niche, and those who have grown to love (me) it will certainly accept this album into loving arms. It isn’t as strong as the records that preceded it, but, at the end of the day, anything this band has to offer is still a lot more honest and explosive than what most of their peers have.

DOOM- UNEXPECTED GUESTS [Gold Dust Media] (2009)// Mark: A-

Doom is known for putting out “new” albums with recycled tracks, UNEXPECTED GUESTS is no different the albums about 65% recycled shit.
DOOM digs into his vast archives to mix together some of his all-time favorite productions, collaborations and guest appearances. Whether it be along side legends like De La Soul, Talib Kweli or Ghostface, but see im a DOOM fan so I appreciate a “greatest hits” album with new tracks mixed in. Quite Buttery (Count Bass D Feat. Doom) for instance I just wish he would make new albums all new. However for new DOOM fans thats why my grade stands Unexpected Guest presents many of these hard to find tracks as a mix CD, executed and overseen by the Super Villain himself.

Far more than a simple hardcore act, Southern California’s Cryptic Slaughter was arguably the ultimate speedcore band. Through age, time, and experience would eventually teach them to slow things down on occasion, their 1986 debut album, CONVICTED, relies almost exclusively on the dizzying speed of thrash too me the faster the better and if you think the same way this albums for you. The CD release even has some live performances of a show in Houston in 88′ before I was born but still appreciated. Couldnt find any MP3’s to share but all in more reason to check the album out for yourself on iTunes or Amazon or somthing.

Sure they have more recent albums out right now but “The Art of Partying” is one memory I have of graffitied walls, loud abnoctious fucks, and all around hooliganism that I wouldnt trade for the world. Literally bursting onto the early 2000s metal scene with the ressurrection of classic thrash and crossover, Municipal Waste proved they where here too stay and I hope to hear more from them throught my days. Between Tony Foresta fast vocals and Ryan Waste’s guitar thrash each song sounds like it came straight out of the fucking 80s, here to rescue all of us from the same ol’ mundane bull shit that keeps being pushed out by other bands. So turn up the volume go nuts and punch some watermelons while your at it.
